A fierce fire broke out in parts of the Dodowa Market during the early hours of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, destroying several metal containers and their contents before being brought under control by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The fire, which ignited around 1:25 a.m., spread quickly through sections of the market, causing panic among traders and nearby residents.
By the time firefighters arrived, thick smoke and intense flames had already engulfed several stalls and were threatening to consume the entire market.
Fire crews from the Katamanso Fire Station, led by ADO I Simon Sosu, responded promptly, with support from the Adenta and Madina Fire Stations. Through coordinated efforts, the blaze was brought under control by 3:06 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:51 a.m.
In total, 12 metal containers and their contents were completely destroyed, while six others sustained partial damage. However, firefighters managed to save over 50 market sheds and nearby structures, preventing what could have been a much greater disaster.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The GNFS has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The Service also praised ACFO II Osmond Anum, Deputy Director of Operations, officers from the Tema Region, and supporting agencies for their professionalism and assistance during the response.
