Felix Kwakye Ofosu on MP Challenges

- Felix Kwakye Ofosu says being an MP is among the toughest roles in governance
- Admits he underestimated the role before entering Parliament
- MPs are under constant pressure from constituents’ demands
The Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has described the role of MPs as one of the most demanding positions in Ghana’s political system.
Speaking on Channel One, Mr. Ofosu admitted that he previously underestimated the intensity of the job until he assumed office.
“Running for and serving as an MP has been eye-opening. I didn’t fully grasp the level of stress MPs endure until I experienced it firsthand,” he stated.
He explained that MPs face constant pressure from constituents, as they are the most visible and accessible government representatives at the local level.
“MPs are essentially the face of their constituencies. People bring all sorts of requests to them—many of which stretch their capacity and resources,” he said.
Mr. Ofosu also emphasized that MPs are often unfairly judged, despite juggling responsibilities far beyond legislative duties.
“I believe we’re sometimes too harsh on MPs in our criticisms. Many go through immense pressure that isn’t always visible to the public,” he concluded.
