Family Health University awards 318 graduates in Accra

The forecourt of Family Health University (FHU) in Accra was filled with excitement as 318 graduates from its Medical School and School of Nursing and Midwifery received their certificates under the theme, “Building Bridges and Raising Ladders for the Next Generation of Healthcare Providers.”
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Enyonam Yao Kwawukume, Founder and Vice Chancellor of FHU, lauded the graduates for their resilience, discipline, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
A total of 73 medical students graduated, including 30 Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences (pre-clinical) students advancing to the clinical phase, and 43 completing their clinical training to earn the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree. Prof. Kwawukume emphasized that they are well-prepared to contribute to Ghana’s goal of accessible, quality healthcare.
From the School of Nursing and Midwifery, 245 graduates were presented: 111 Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 64 Bachelor of Science in Midwifery, and 70 Nurse Assistant Clinical graduates. The Vice Chancellor commended them for choosing a profession that demands knowledge, empathy, and a strong dedication to service.
Prof. Kwawukume also highlighted FHU’s growth, including the recruitment of skilled faculty, expansion of lecture halls, acquisition of additional vehicles for clinical rotations, and ongoing construction of student hostels and office facilities. He underscored the university’s robust international partnerships, particularly with the University of Virginia and the University of Michigan, which facilitate research and academic exchanges in adolescent sexual and reproductive health as well as maternal and child health.
Guest of Honour, Air Commodore D. A. Akrong, Acting Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), encouraged graduates to uphold the highest standards of service, describing healthcare professionals as bridges between “pain and healing, despair and hope.”
Top honours were awarded to five outstanding graduates:
- Overall Best BSc Medical Science: Bediako Felicity Akunor Dede
- Overall Best MBChB Student: Quaye Millicent
- Overall Best Nursing Graduate: Gwyn Antoinette
- Overall Best Midwifery Graduate: Kuatsenu Jessica
- Overall Best Nurse Assistant Clinical: Okoawo Osamudiamen Daisy
Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Susu Bridget Kwawukume, Founder of FHU and Hospital; Brig. Gen. Daniel K. Frimpong (Rtd.), Chairman of Council; Gbetsorlor Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, Paramount Chief of Teshie Traditional Council; Hon. Benjamin Ayiku, MP for Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly; and Reverend Father Andrew Campbell of the Weija Leprosarium.
The ceremony concluded with warm congratulatory messages to all graduates as they embark on their professional journeys in healthcare.
