The New Patriotic Party’s 2024 vice-presidential candidate and former Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has clarified that while he introduced the double-track system in senior high schools, the policy was phased out before he left office.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, explained that the system was initially implemented to handle the surge in enrollment under the Free SHS programme but was no longer in use by the time he departed the ministry.

“I can confirm that I initiated the double-track system in our schools, but before leaving the Ministry of Education, we ended it. I even sought Cabinet approval to terminate the system before my departure,” he stated.
