- Support aimed at easing school fee burdens on parents and students
- Funding sourced from part of the MP’s Common Fund
The Member of Parliament for Tano North in the Ahafo Region, Dr. Gideon Boako, has disbursed cheques to 127 tertiary students in the constituency to assist with the payment of their school fees. The presentation, which took place at Tanoso, drew traditional authorities, officials of the Ghana Education Service, parents, students, and other stakeholders.
In an interview with Adom News, Dr. Boako noted that many parents in the area face difficulties financing their children’s education at tertiary institutions, including universities, nursing training colleges, and colleges of education, a challenge that often negatively affects students’ academic performance.
He explained that the support followed his decision to allocate part of his Common Fund to reduce the financial pressure on both parents and students. Dr. Boako emphasized that all applicants were supported, as he is well aware of the difficulties students encounter when fees are not paid promptly.
The MP described the initiative, known as the “MP’s Scholarship,” as a long-term programme that will be maintained throughout his tenure to help address the persistent fee-related challenges facing tertiary students in the constituency.
Some beneficiaries, including Amankwah Ernestina of St. Joseph College of Education, Kaisia Nyarko Otchere of Akenten Appiah-Menka University, and Karikari Nyantakyi Josephine of Sunyani Technical University, expressed appreciation to the MP for the assistance.
They explained that delays in paying school fees often lead to stress and disrupt their studies, describing the scholarship as a timely and commendable intervention. The students added that, as the first initiative of its kind in the constituency, it will allow them to concentrate better on their academic work.
