Couple on the Run After Swindling Landlady of GH¢260,000

Story Highlights
  • Gifty Ansu Gyamfi and Stephen Appau are wanted for defrauding their landlady
  • The couple failed to appear in court twice
  • Appau, who received the bulk of the money, has not refunded it

A couple is now fugitives as the Ghana Police Service searches for them over a GH¢260,000 fraud case in Sakumono, Accra.

The Accra Circuit Court issued a bench warrant for Gifty Ansu Gyamfi, a trader, and Stephen Appau, a miner, on August 21, 2024, following their alleged scam involving a promise to supply gold to their landlady, Doris Animah Tando.

Despite the court’s previous efforts to bring them to justice, including a missed court appearance on September 4, 2024, the pair remains elusive.

The couple’s fraudulent scheme involved collecting a substantial amount of money under false pretenses, with Appau reportedly going into hiding after receiving the funds.

Gifty admitted to receiving only GH¢60,000 of the total amount, while Appau took the rest. Although he pledged to refund the money, he has not made good on his promise.

Police are continuing their efforts to track down Appau and ensure he faces charges.
