Ashanti Regional Police Bust Armed Robbery Gang in Major Operation

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate suspected of carrying out a series of violent home invasions across the region.
The arrests were made during a coordinated intelligence-led operation by rapid response units from the KNUST District and the Regional Operations Unit, with support from the Police Intelligence Department (PID). The operation took place on Friday, June 27, 2025, around 11:30 a.m.
During the raid, one suspect was fatally wounded in a gunfire exchange and later died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). Another key suspect, Yahaya Nuhu, remains on the run, and a manhunt is ongoing.
Arrested individuals include Kwadwo Kyei Baffour (39), Joseph Oppong alias “Joe” (30), and Bernard Owusu Ansah alias “Hot Boy” (27), among others. Baffour confessed to participating in several robberies and admitted to sexually assaulting a victim. Ansah is currently under armed police guard at KATH receiving medical treatment. Additional suspects taken into custody are Kwadwo Konadu (28), James Asare Boateng (26), Emmanuel Asiedu (27), Maxwell Gyimah (30), and Daniel Dwumor.
The gang is believed to be behind multiple robberies in areas such as Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Denkyembuoso, Appiadu, and nearby communities.
Initial investigations reveal that the group used pump-action guns and pistols to force entry into homes, holding residents at gunpoint and stealing cash, electronics, and other valuables.
Recovered items include several laptops, tablets, mobile phones, wristwatches, television sets, WiFi routers, and three vehicles: a Kia Morning and two Toyota Corollas (registration numbers GX 4388-19 and AS 4777-22).
Police also seized a Taurus pistol (ACC721513) with four rounds of 9mm ammo, an NP Cal 9x19mm pistol (No. 11501418), and a Jojeff pump-action shotgun (No. 8782) loaded with 33 rounds of ammunition.
All suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court shortly.
