- John Wumborti has been appointed Interim President of the West African Society of Air Safety Investigators.
- The appointment is pending elections by WASASI.
- The position also makes Mr Wumborti a member of the ISASI Council.
John Wumborti, Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana), has been appointed Interim President of the West African Society of Air Safety Investigators (WASASI).
The appointment was announced on 16 July and takes effect pending elections by WASASI, which is the West African chapter of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI).
AIB Ghana said the role is expected to strengthen Ghana’s participation in regional and international discussions on aviation safety, while creating an avenue to support accident-investigation capacity in Ghana and across West Africa.
By taking up the interim presidency, Mr Wumborti also becomes a member of the ISASI Council, the body involved in major decisions concerning aircraft accident investigation and aviation safety.
Speaking after the announcement, Mr Wumborti described the appointment as an important development for Ghana and the bureau. He said it would give Ghana an opportunity to contribute to international decision-making and to raise challenges affecting aircraft accident investigations in Ghana and the wider West African region.
He said Ghana’s aircraft accident investigation system remains under development and requires continued capacity building. He identified specialised training, technical support and international collaboration as areas needed to strengthen the system.
WASASI operates as a regional professional platform for air safety investigators under ISASI, whose membership brings together specialists involved in the investigation of aviation accidents and incidents.
