Former West Ham United chief scout Mick Brown has suggested that Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus may leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Kudus, who signed a five-year contract with West Ham in August 2023, with an option for an additional year, has recently been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
In an interview with Football Insider, Brown indicated that despite Kudus’ talent, a move seems likely.
“It appears that Kudus will be departing West Ham,” he stated. “There’s been considerable interest in him, but clubs won’t meet the £80 million valuation. They will negotiate for a lower fee, which West Ham might accept since it’s still a substantial sum.”
Brown, also a former Manchester United scout, acknowledged Kudus’ potential but expressed concerns about his consistency.
“To be honest, I have doubts about his consistency—he didn’t have the strongest season. However, clubs believe they can unlock his potential.”
He confirmed Chelsea’s interest, adding that under new manager Enzo Maresca, the club is eager to strengthen their squad.
“Chelsea are among the latest to pursue him, with Tottenham also engaged in talks. Chelsea seem ready to spend heavily. With Joao Pedro signed and Jamie Gittens targeted, they’re clearly not finished.
“Kudus has supporters at Stamford Bridge seeking more attacking options. So despite my reservations, clubs recognize his clear talent if properly utilized.”
Kudus impressed during his first Premier League season, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in all competitions. However, his form declined last season, with only five goals.
The 24-year-old is currently enjoying a holiday in Ghana.
