English defender Lloyd Kelly scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to rescue a 4-4 draw for Juventus in a sensational second-half showdown against Borussia Dortmund in Turin.
Kelly, who joined Juventus from Newcastle over the summer, had earlier conceded a penalty that allowed Dortmund to go 4-2 up. However, he redeemed himself by heading home a pinpoint cross from Dusan Vlahovic in the 96th minute, just two minutes after the Serbian striker had made it 4-3.
The opening 45 minutes were largely uneventful, with both teams struggling to break each other down in midfield. But the second half exploded into life, producing eight goals from the 51st minute onward, as Juventus clawed their way back from behind on three separate occasions.
Karim Adeyemi opened the scoring for Dortmund with a composed finish into the far corner, but Juventus responded through a stunning long-range strike by Turkish youngster Kenan Yildiz.
The lead changed hands rapidly, with Felix Nmecha curling in a superb first-time finish to restore Dortmund’s advantage, only for Vlahovic to cancel it out moments later with a clinical one-on-one finish.
Dortmund appeared to take control when Yan Couto drove a low effort inside the near post, and Ramy Bensebaini extended the lead to 4-2 from the penalty spot after Kelly was penalized for handball.
But Juventus were not done. Vlahovic fired in off the post in the 94th minute before turning provider in the 96th, setting up Kelly to head home the final equaliser in a pulsating end to the match.
