The University of Ghana (UG) has once again been recognized as the highest-ranked university in Ghana and the West African sub-region in the 2026 edition of the prestigious QS World University Rankings.

This marks a continuation of its success from the 2025 rankings, reaffirming UG’s status as a leading academic institution in West Africa and among the top universities on the African continent, according to QS — one of the world’s foremost authorities on university rankings.

The ranking reflects the University’s consistent progress, driven by its commitment to the five strategic priorities outlined in its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan.

Key performance indicators from the 2026 QS Rankings highlight UG’s advancement:

  • An impressive 96.8 score in Employment Outcomes underscores the global competitiveness of UG graduates and the effectiveness of initiatives under the Transformative Student Experience.
  • A robust 80.8 score in the International Research Network category showcases the University’s expanding global partnerships and research impact, aligned with its goal of promoting Impactful Research.

In addition to its QS success, UG also earned high marks in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, placing first in Ghana, second in West Africa, and achieving an impressive global standing. While QS and THE rankings use different evaluation methods, both underscore UG’s rising prominence on the world stage.

The University’s management applauds the dedication of its faculty, staff, and students whose efforts continue to position UG as a hub of academic excellence, impactful research, and meaningful global collaboration. These milestones further UG’s mission of transforming higher education in Ghana and West Africa while contributing to sustainable development across the continent.
