  • A total of 30,000 litres of water was delivered to the school in two phases

The Member of Parliament for Tema East, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, has led an emergency response to resolve the severe water shortage at Manhean Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in Tema Manhean.

The intervention comes in the wake of widespread water supply disruptions across parts of the Tema enclave, caused by a technical fault on one of the Ghana Water Company Limited’s (GWCL) major pipelines serving the Tema catchment area.

Mr Odamtten has been closely monitoring the situation and engaging key stakeholders to lessen its impact on residents and essential institutions. In response to the acute hardship faced by Manhean SHTS, he swiftly arranged for the immediate delivery of 30,000 litres of water to the school.

The supply was delivered in two stages—10,000 litres on Wednesday morning, followed by an additional 20,000 litres later in the afternoon. The operation was facilitated through the collaborative efforts of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), which made its water tanker available, and the Tema New Town Fire Service Station, which granted access to critical water hydrants.

The intervention provided temporary relief, easing the immediate water crisis and safeguarding the health and welfare of students and staff.

Expressing concern over the wider water challenges within the constituency, Mr Odamtten assured residents that he would continue to engage GWCL officials to fast-track a lasting solution to the pipeline fault. He also praised GWCL management for their efforts to restore supply, while commending the TMA and the Tema New Town Fire Service Station for their prompt and invaluable support.

Meanwhile, GWCL has announced the successful repair of a burst 42-inch transmission pipeline at Kpong, leading to the restoration of water supply to affected communities.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the company said repair works were completed at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, with production and pumping to the Tema Booster Station resuming an hour later. Water supply to Tema, New Town, Kpone, and surrounding areas was restored from about 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
