A serious accident at the Lapaz main traffic light on the N1 Highway has left five people critically injured after a collision between two motorcycles in the midst of busy traffic.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the motorcycles, carrying a female passenger and traveling from Awoshie towards Achimota, reportedly ran a red light before crashing into the other bike.
During the collision, a pedestrian standing nearby was also struck.
Police promptly arrived at the scene, restored order, and helped transport the injured to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The crash has renewed calls from traders and commuters for the government to construct a pedestrian overpass at the Lapaz junction, which is widely regarded as a high-risk area.
Many believe that building such an overpass would prevent future accidents and improve the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.
