Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has dismissed claims of political affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite being appointed by former President John Dramani Mahama.
In an interview with Channel One TV in Accra, Mr. Choi stated that his professional life has remained nonpartisan. “I’ve never been political,” he said. “I know many individuals in the New Patriotic Party (NPP). For example, our company, PaySwitch, was launched by Dr. Bawumia, not for political reasons, but due to his keen interest in digitalisation.”
He also mentioned that former First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo attended the launch of his art gallery purely out of her passion for the arts, not political alignment. “She came to support my vision of promoting emerging artists,” Choi explained.
Mr. Choi stressed that he maintains friendships across both political divides and has “never lobbied or funded” any political campaign. “I’ve always been a quiet entrepreneur,” he said.
Born in South Korea, Choi moved to Ghana at the age of 14 and later became a naturalised Ghanaian citizen. He has since built deep cultural and business ties between Ghana and South Korea.
