A family at Akwadum, in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, has fallen victim to an armed robbery after a fake gold transaction turned into a violent scam.

The incident, which occurred on April 19, 2025, left the family traumatized and deprived of GH₵200,000 in cash.

According to a police report, Derick Boadu was contacted by a man who introduced himself as Nana Yaw from Tarkwa, claiming to have gold for sale. Derick later sent GH₵1,000 to cover the alleged sellers’ transportation to Akwadum.

Three men reportedly arrived and checked into Nayamas Guest House at Odumase, citing transport difficulties. Around 4 a.m. the next day, they called Derick to proceed with the transaction.

To confirm the authenticity of the supposed gold, Derick involved his father, Nana Boadu, and the meeting was arranged at their home in Akwadum Ankobeabene.

However, shortly after discussions began, five armed men—some dressed in military uniforms and one in a police uniform—stormed the residence, holding the family at gunpoint before escaping with GH₵200,000 in GH₵200 denomination notes.

In an interview, Nana Boadu recounted that the robbers overpowered them and fled before any help could arrive.

A police complaint was subsequently filed, leading to the arrest of several suspects at Agyaenkotoku in Accra. The victim’s daughter later identified some of the suspects, including one known as Kamoko, who allegedly mentioned two accomplices—Nana Yaw from Madina and Seidu from the Northern Region.

Although the suspects have been remanded twice, the victims have expressed concern over reports that the case may be transferred from Kibi to Accra.

They fear possible interference and are appealing to the Police Administration to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
