55 Illegal Immigrants Remanded by Accra Circuit Court

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded 55 foreign nationals into prison custody after they were arrested at Kuntunse, near Amasaman, for allegedly entering and residing in Ghana illegally.

The accused were part of a larger group of over 100 foreign nationals apprehended by police on October 7, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation.

They have denied claims that they entered the country through unapproved routes or were staying and working without valid permits.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah, requested the remand to enable further investigations.

ASP Haligah told the court that police, acting on intelligence, discovered the accused persons in a house at Kuntunse-Satellite, a suburb of Accra. Upon questioning, they refused to provide their true identities and were subsequently taken to the CID Headquarters for investigation.

Preliminary findings revealed that the individuals, believed to be from neighbouring francophone countries, entered Ghana through unauthorized border points between February and September 2025. They also failed to report to any immigration office to present travel documents or complete the necessary registration processes. Checks further indicated that none of the accused possessed valid documentation permitting them to live or work in Ghana.

Following the investigations, they were charged and brought before the court.

Among those remanded are Igobere Mata, Victoir Abubakar, None Adams, De Paul Smith Ekollo, Oumar Sylla, Martine Ndmebe, Moustik Noird, Oscar Oman Kamoki, Brice Bangassou, Carlos Ngande, Kone Issa, Buinwi Amadu, Blesse Djami, Dieudonne Torrentot, Albert Binyame, Jordan Konlack Kuete, Youssoupha Fatar, Njufack Loic, Douanla Romeo, Alliun Fouko, Edouard Nkoum, Ngong Zidane, and Cheba Ben.
