25 Agona Swedru SHS students suspended

- 25 students suspended after same-sex proposal led to a fight
- Student allegedly ambushed after rejection and retaliated
- Suspended students to sit final exams under parental supervision
Approximately 25 final-year students of Agona Swedru Senior High School in the Central Region have been suspended following a violent altercation reportedly triggered by a same-sex relationship proposal.
The school’s headmistress, Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, confirmed the incident during an interview with Accra-based Onua News.
According to school authorities, the conflict began when a male student allegedly proposed a romantic relationship to another male student, who declined the offer. The rejecting student later discussed the matter with his peers, who reportedly advised him to feign interest and set up a meeting.
At the arranged meeting, the student who made the proposal was allegedly ambushed and assaulted by a group of students linked to the one who turned him down. In response, the victim alerted his dormitory mates, resulting in a retaliatory attack.
The situation escalated quickly, involving more students and prompting urgent intervention by school authorities.
Mrs. Andam stated that all involved students were given a fair disciplinary hearing before sanctions were imposed.
“These students will sit their final exams under the supervision of their parents,” she said. “They now understand that the Ghana Education Service takes its code of conduct very seriously.”
She clarified that the punishment does not take away the students’ right to education but is meant as a deterrent to others.
Mrs. Andam urged all students to obey school regulations to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
