13th Anniversary of President Mills’ Passing

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Asomdwe Park in Accra on Thursday, July 24, 2025, to mark the 13th anniversary of the passing of former President John Evans Atta Mills.

Speaking at the event, President John Dramani Mahama described the annual commemoration as both a national responsibility and a moment for deep reflection on the late leader’s enduring legacy.

“One key lesson from President Mills’s life is that no obstacle is too great when leadership is rooted in integrity, empathy, and principle,” Mahama stated.

He also drew a connection between his administration’s Reset Agenda and the solid foundation laid by Mills through the Better Ghana Agenda. Mahama praised Mills’s leadership style as one characterized by humility, service, and dignity—free from divisive political rhetoric.

Six wreaths were laid in total. Krowor MP Agnes Naa Momo Lartey laid one on behalf of the former First Lady, Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, supported by Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley Ocloo and Minister for Fisheries, Emelia Arthur.

President Mahama laid a wreath with the assistance of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and members of the Majority Caucus also paid their respects. NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia laid a wreath on behalf of the party, while members of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage (JEAMMH) honored the late president with a commemorative wreath.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials including President Mahama, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker Bagbin, and several Members of Parliament.

Prominent attendees also included NDC General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, JEAMMH Board Chair and CEO Alex Segbefia, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, members of the NDC Council of Elders, relatives of the late president, and members of the general public.
