Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has lauded Antoine Semenyo following the Ghanaian forward’s standout debut, expressing confidence that the striker can maintain his strong start at the club.
Semenyo, who recently joined City in a £65 million transfer from AFC Bournemouth, made his first appearance for the Premier League champions in their FA Cup Third Round match against Exeter City.
The 26-year-old marked the occasion with a goal and an assist, helping City secure a resounding 10-1 victory over the lower-league side.
Speaking ahead of City’s EFL Cup clash against Newcastle United, Guardiola noted that the qualities Semenyo displayed at Bournemouth were already visible in his brief debut.
“He is a nice guy. He showed in a few actions [against Exeter] what he showed at Bournemouth, and hopefully he can continue to do it here,” Guardiola said.
Known for his versatility across the attacking line and direct style of play, Semenyo is expected to be considered for selection in the upcoming match at St James’ Park.
