Otumfuo Seeks German Partnership for Suame

- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II aims to partner with Germany to modernize Suame Magazine
- Land allocated for redevelopment into a structured artisan enclave
- Discussions to continue ahead of German President’s visit to Ghana
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has announced plans to seek technical assistance from the German government to boost skills development among artisans at Suame Magazine in Kumasi.
During a meeting with the German Ambassador to Ghana, Otumfuo emphasized the importance of structured training and technological support to elevate Suame Magazine into a modern industrial enclave.
He revealed that land has already been secured for the redevelopment of the area, which will be transformed into an organized zone where mechanics, fabricators, and auto engineers can work under improved and efficient conditions.
“Suame Magazine is the heartbeat of artisanal mechanics in Kumasi. They’re highly skilled — capable of designing and repairing all types of vehicles. With a modern training centre and German technical support, we can help them become world-class engineers,” Otumfuo stated.
The Asantehene added that formal discussions will be pursued with German officials ahead of an expected visit by the German President to Ghana, where the proposal will be further developed.
Suame Magazine is one of the largest artisanal industrial hubs in West Africa, supporting thousands of mechanics and technicians who play a vital role in Ghana’s automotive and metal fabrication sectors.
