Hearts of Oak Reject Alleged GH¢11,000 Debt to UG Stadium

The Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has disputed reports suggesting the club owes the University of Ghana (UG) for the use of the Legon Sports Stadium, stressing that there are no outstanding arrears.

Recent media reports alleged that the Ghana Premier League side owes GH¢11,000 for matches and training sessions conducted at the facility between 2016 and 2018. The reports further claimed that Hearts of Oak could be denied access to the stadium for their Matchday 19 fixture against Dreams FC on Friday unless the alleged amount is paid.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo insisted that the club has met all its financial commitments to the university.

“The amount being mentioned is about GH¢11,000 for matches and training between 2016 and 2018, even though we vacated the venue midway through that season,” he explained. “Our records, which were verified by our former club accountant, Hon. Hackman Seidu, clearly show that all payments to the UG Sports Stadium have been fully settled.”

He added that Hearts of Oak is willing to address the issue if the University of Ghana presents credible evidence to support any outstanding claim.

“If UG has a claim, they should provide proof, and once it is verified, we will settle it,” he said.

Opare Addo also expressed confidence that ongoing discussions with UG authorities would resolve the matter, allowing the match against Dreams FC to be staged at the Legon Sports Stadium.

“Our game against Dreams FC will certainly be reconsidered to take place at the University of Ghana. That is our home venue, and we cannot continue changing venues,” he added.
