Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has urged Ghanaians to support President-elect John Dramani Mahama as he returns to office. Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), triumphed over the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing a comeback to the presidency after eight years in opposition.

In a heartfelt social media post, Gyan congratulated the newly elected government and appealed to citizens to prioritize national unity over political divisions.

“You know, when there is an issue, I will share my thoughts. Let’s support the government. Any government that comes to power, let’s support them. When you go and buy things at GHC 50 and you sell them at GHC 1000, the country will go through hardship,” Gyan remarked.

The football legend highlighted the importance of collaboration for the country’s progress, emphasizing that political parties should put differences aside for the good of Ghana. “Ghana has decided. Let’s put party politics aside, and if your party has won, focus on government, and for us as citizens, we will also support.”

Gyan also called for a change in mindset, urging Ghanaians to adopt a more positive attitude in supporting the new administration. “We also have to change our attitudes, and we have to support the new government. Let’s congratulate the new government, and that is my message,” he said.

Concluding his message, Gyan appealed to Ghanaians to be loyal and constructive citizens. “So as a good citizen or as a loyal citizen of this country, this is my message for you: Let’s congratulate the ruling party, which is the NDC, and let us support them, not sabotage them,” he added.
