TDC MD Urges Peace in Anlo

- Avadada Togbi Agbesi Awusu II links current tensions to colonial-era setbacks
- Leaders stress that Anlo’s strength and progress depend on unity and shared vision
- Emphasizes the need for peace and unity, especially among the youth
The Managing Director of TDC Ghana Ltd., Courage Nunekpeku, has expressed concern over ongoing chieftaincy disputes and growing tensions in Anlo, located in the Volta Region, warning that such conflicts could hinder the area’s development and jeopardize the future of its youth.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by a delegation of traditional leaders from Anlo, Mr. Nunekpeku emphasized the importance of peace and unity for progress.
“I’m particularly concerned about the peace in Anloga State. I know Avadada and his team are doing their part, but more needs to be done. The ongoing court cases and disputes reported from the area are discouraging. Development thrives only where there is peace — and this mindset must be instilled in the youth,” he said.
The visit, on behalf of the Awomefia of Anlo, Togbi Sri III, was both a congratulatory gesture for Mr. Nunekpeku’s appointment and an invitation to this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival. The delegation also underscored the role of traditional leadership in national development, encouraging Mr. Nunekpeku to continue bringing pride to Anlo and his community.
In response, the Avadada of Anlo, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, traced the roots of current internal divisions to historical challenges. He explained that during the colonial era, Anlo was overlooked in the elevation of chiefs to paramountcy, resulting in the weakening of the Anlo State Council, which once governed 36 settlements.
He warned that without unity, Anlo risks losing its influence and developmental momentum.
“Without cohesion, Anlo cannot assert itself or effectively pursue development. Our strength lies in solidarity and a shared vision,” he noted, urging Mr. Nunekpeku to actively support efforts toward reconciliation and lasting peace.
