The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed his disappointment and frustration with the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to provide political parties with copies of the provisional voter’s register. Mahama emphasized the importance of receiving the register ahead of the voter exhibition exercise.
He revealed that the EC had requested political parties to submit their external drives for the register in July, but had since failed to make it available. As of Friday, political parties were yet to receive the provisional voters register, with the Commission failing to provide reasons for the delay.
Mahama stressed that the exhibition of the register starts in just four days, and it is imperative that political parties receive the register to ensure their members’ names are included. He urged the EC to release the provisional registers immediately, so that political parties can assist their members in verifying their names.
Mahama’s call to action was met with support from the crowd, who shared his concerns about the EC’s delay. The NDC flagbearer reiterated that the party’s executives need the register to help their members check their names and ensure they are eligible to vote.
Mahama’s demand for the immediate release of the provisional voter’s register highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process. The delay in releasing the register has raised concerns about the EC’s preparedness for the upcoming elections, and Mahama’s call to action seeks to ensure that the Commission takes immediate action to address this issue.
