Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay, popularly known as the self-acclaimed Queen of Ghana Music, has opened up about her close bond with Dancehall icon Shatta Wale, saying their friendship goes far beyond musical collaboration.
Speaking on Joy Prime during the promotion of her new album Ready, Wendy shared that she has come to know a different side of Shatta Wale — one that contrasts sharply with his bold and outspoken public image.
“He’s a genius and a sweet guy,” she said, describing the Ayoo hitmaker as calm, thoughtful, and deeply creative.
Recalling their first recording session for Stevie Wonder, Wendy noted, “The Shatta I met wasn’t the loud, confident performer everyone knows. He was quiet, focused, and so passionate about his craft — honestly, just a cutie lost in creativity.”
Wendy added that their friendship has since deepened, strengthened by shared respect and artistic connection. Shatta Wale even gifted her and Rufftown Records the mechanical rights to their songs Stevie Wonder and H.I.T., a gesture she described as rare and generous in the industry.
Their bond remains one of Ghana’s most admired artist friendships — built on authenticity, respect, and music.
