Highlife legend Nana Acheampong has returned to Ghana ahead of the final funeral rites for his longtime musical partner and close friend, Daddy Lumba.
The celebrated musician arrived in Accra last night and called on Ghanaians to come together to honour the memory of the late icon.
“Let’s come together and celebrate the life of my brother Daddy Lumba… My condolences once again to the family and loved ones,” he said.
The funeral was initially scheduled for December 13, 2025, as announced by the Manhyia Palace. However, the date remains uncertain, as Daddy Lumba’s immediate family has raised objections.
The family cited ongoing autopsy and investigations in both Ghana and Germany, academic examinations for some of the late musician’s children abroad, and the need to allow relatives and close associates overseas sufficient time to prepare and attend.
Despite these challenges, Nana Acheampong has returned to Ghana to show support, expressing profound grief over the loss of his ‘brother.’
Nana Acheampong and Daddy Lumba first met in Germany in the 1980s, forming the iconic duo known as the Lumba Brothers. Their collaboration transformed Ghanaian highlife, introducing a modern sound that influenced an entire generation.
Their debut album, Yeeye Aka Akwantuo Mu, marked the start of a legendary musical journey. Though both later pursued solo careers, they continued to shape the highlife scene, maintaining a bond of brotherhood and mutual respect that lasted over three decades, despite occasional public speculation about rivalry.
