Gospel community mourns Maame Tiwaa’s passing

Ghana’s gospel music fraternity has been hit with sorrow following the passing of Maame Tiwaa, the renowned backing vocalist of legendary gospel artiste Yaw Sarpong.
She died in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025, after a short illness.
For many years, Maame Tiwaa was the comforting female voice supporting Yaw Sarpong as part of the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo group. She contributed to numerous timeless gospel songs that continue to uplift believers nationwide. Her most recent public appearances were her tribute performance at this year’s TGMA and at her son’s wedding.
In recent months, she devoted herself to caring for Yaw Sarpong during his health challenges. Sadly, her passing has left both the gospel community and Yaw Sarpong in deep mourning.
Fans and fellow gospel artistes have begun sharing heartfelt tributes, remembering her for her humility and the spiritual power of her voice.
The family has not yet released details about the cause of death or funeral arrangements.
