Burna Boy addresses criticisms from fans during Instagram Live

- Burna Boy stresses that no one is obliged to follow him or his music
- Values fans who appreciate his music and artistic journey, not trend-followers
- Prefers new fans “that have money this period” over those quick to criticize
Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has sparked renewed online debate after sharing candid thoughts about his relationship with fans during a recent Instagram Live session.
Responding to criticisms regarding his attitude toward supporters, the “City Boys” hitmaker emphasized that no one is obligated to follow him or his music. He stressed that support should be genuine and voluntary, not influenced by pressure or unrealistic expectations.
Burna Boy explained that he values fans who truly appreciate his music and artistic journey, rather than those who simply follow trends or feel entitled to his persona.
He also noted that if he were to gain new fans at this stage, he would prefer supporters “that have money this period,” rather than those struggling yet quick to criticize his actions.
His comments follow a recent controversy in which he removed a concertgoer reportedly caught sleeping during his performance. While some defended the move as necessary to maintain energy on stage, others considered it excessive.
