Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, alongside other government officials, visited the home of the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings to offer condolences to the Rawlings family following her passing.
The delegation, which included senior government figures and party representatives, signed a condolence book in honour of the late stateswoman. The family expressed appreciation for the support shown during their period of mourning.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 76. She was Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, having served across both the military and civilian administrations of her husband—from the AFRC and PNDC eras to the Fourth Republic.
A trailblazer in women’s empowerment, Nana Konadu founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, promoting women’s rights, social and economic development, and political participation. She later established the National Democratic Party (NDP) in 2012, becoming Ghana’s first female presidential candidate that same year. In 2018, she published her biography, It Takes a Woman, highlighting her life and advocacy for gender equality.
Nana Konadu leaves behind a remarkable legacy of leadership, resilience, and service to Ghana. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
