Lawyers representing the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, have expressed disappointment following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of their motion seeking to prevent Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from presiding over their client’s trial.
A five-member panel of the apex court on Thursday unanimously ruled that the application was without merit, stating that it did not meet the legal requirements necessary to disqualify a trial judge.
Reacting to the ruling, lead counsel Samuel Atta Akyea said that although the decision was disappointing, the defence team remained resolute in its pursuit of justice.
“I am disappointed but not discouraged. We will see how the case unfolds. The only persuasion a judge should have is the law. I won’t quarrel with the judge — I’ll simply project the law, and that doesn’t bother me at all,” he told journalists after the proceedings.
