In a renewed crackdown on illegal mining, the Suaman District Assembly, in partnership with security agencies, has dismantled four changfangs and other mining equipment used in galamsey operations on the River Sui.

The operation, led by District Chief Executive (DCE) Vasco Obour, targeted miners working within the river. Upon sighting the task force, the illegal miners reportedly fled, abandoning their makeshift boats, changfangs, and various mining tools. The task force immediately destroyed the equipment by setting it ablaze to prevent future use.
Following the raid, DCE Vasco Obour highlighted the role of intelligence gathering and community cooperation in identifying the illegal operations. He affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with the District Security Council (DISEC) and other local partners to develop sustainable strategies to eliminate illegal mining from water bodies in the area.
