Security Analyst Commends Police at Akwatia By-Election

- Security analyst praises police response during Akwatia by-election
- Minor disturbances quickly managed by deployed officers
- Over 5,500 officers initially questioned, but later deemed necessary
Security analyst Samuel Nana Appiah has praised the Ghana Police Service for their effective handling of the Akwatia by-election, noting that their swift interventions helped to quickly contain minor disturbances.
While he initially questioned the deployment of over 5,500 uniformed officers to the constituency, Appiah later acknowledged that the scale of the operation was justified by the calm and orderly outcome.
“In my experience with security training and operations, no deployment achieves 100% efficiency—even in advanced countries, performance usually ranges between 75–80%. That’s considered a pass,” he remarked, rating the police’s efforts in Akwatia within that benchmark.
Appiah further emphasized that consistent professionalism in such operations could help improve public confidence in the police service.
“If this level of diligence becomes the standard, the police may not need to deploy 5,000 officers in future by-elections—1,000 or 2,000 could be sufficient to maintain order,” he added.
