Sam George Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Defence Minister

Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George, has paid a deeply personal tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who tragically died in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Sam George described Dr. Boamah as far more than a colleague — calling him a mentor, father figure, and trusted confidant.

“No one influenced my political life more than you,” he wrote. “I called you Boss, and you called me Bro. You didn’t just guide my career — you cared for my family. You even helped choose my children’s school and checked in on their progress every term.”

Clearly overcome with grief, George admitted he is struggling to cope with the loss, both emotionally and spiritually.

“For the past seven months, you’ve been my rock since I became Minister — guiding me through Cabinet preparations and showing me how to manage my responsibilities. Now, I’m left asking: who do I turn to?”

Dr. Boamah was among the eight victims of the Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter crash on August 6 near Adansi in the Ashanti Region. The aircraft, en route from Accra to Obuasi, lost radar contact shortly after takeoff.

Others killed in the crash included Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel.

President John Mahama has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast in honour of those who perished.

The nation continues to grieve the loss of these dedicated public servants.
