Roads Minister Pledges Compensation for Affected Farmers

Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has assured that farmers whose crops are impacted by the Asutsuare to Aveyime Road Project will receive fair compensation.

However, he made it clear that structures constructed after the project’s approval and cost assessment will not be eligible for compensation.

During a site inspection on Monday as part of the Eastern Corridor Road Development Programme, Mr. Agbodza stated:

“If the project has already been approved and the right-of-way defined, any structures built afterward within that zone will not be compensated.”

He raised concerns about a recurring issue where individuals intentionally build within designated rights-of-way in anticipation of compensation.

“It’s becoming common practice. Once people hear about an upcoming road project, they rush to construct buildings within the right-of-way, expecting payouts. This behavior is unacceptable and must be discouraged,” he emphasized.
