Police presence has been restored in Kukurantumi, located in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, following a temporary withdrawal due to violent disturbances.
The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo-Frempong, confirmed the development in an interview with Citi FM, assuring the public that calm has returned to the area.
He explained that while the Kukurantumi Police Station—a sub-station under the Tafo District Command—was briefly shut down, officers have since resumed operations and are now actively maintaining law and order.
“I’m currently in Kukurantumi, and I can confirm there is a visible police presence. The station is operational and being guarded by officers. The main command is in Tafo, just five minutes away, and there’s also a post in Osiem. Residents should remain calm—everything is under control,” the MP stated.
The lawmaker also mentioned that security agencies are expected to offer updates on the ongoing investigations into the recent disturbances. A meeting is planned with both the Regional and District Police Commands to establish a timeline for the probe.
The unrest followed the death of Bright Kena, widely known as D-ball, who had been arrested for unlawful entry and theft. He reportedly died while receiving medical treatment at the Community Hospital in Kukurantumi, leading to tensions between residents and the police.
The clashes prompted the temporary closure of the Kukurantumi station and the withdrawal of officers—until their recent return to restore order.
