Nii Lante Urges Black Stars to Avenge Comoros Defeats

- Former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye calls for revenge win over Comoros
- Ghana needs just a draw to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup
- Match kicks off at 19:00 GMT at Accra Sports Stadium
Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has called on the Black Stars to seek redemption against Comoros in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, set for Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Although Ghana needs only a draw to confirm qualification, Vanderpuye believes the team must play for more than just points—urging them to avenge recent defeats against the island nation.
The Black Stars were infamously knocked out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations following a 3-2 loss to Comoros, and later suffered another 1-0 defeat in Moroni during the second round of the current qualifiers.
Despite Ghana’s strong position in the group, Vanderpuye stressed that the team must play with pride.
“We’ve essentially qualified. Even if we lose, Madagascar would need to win by eight goals to surpass us—which is nearly impossible,” he told Citi Newsroom.
“But we still have to beat Comoros. That loss was painful, and we must show them who we are. We’re Ghana.”
Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars are aiming to qualify for their fifth World Cup, having previously featured in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, and Qatar 2022.
