As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, The Obra Show on Nhyira FM has donated a fully stocked provision shop to the family of a 17-year-old mother who tragically lost her infant son to hydrocephalus.
The young mother and her father, Kofi Appiah, residents of Kwaman Jeduako in the Sekyere Central District, appeared on The Obra Show seeking support for surgery for her seven-month-old son, who was diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
“After I gave birth, my baby developed jaundice and was referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for a blood transfusion. That’s when signs of hydrocephalus began to show,” she shared.
She further revealed that her boyfriend abandoned her after the birth of their child.
Moved by her story, compassionate listeners contributed funds for the baby’s surgery. Unfortunately, the child did not survive the operation, leaving the family heartbroken.
In response, Nhyira FM and the Obra Show team raised additional funds to set up a container shop stocked with essential consumer goods, to help support the young mother and her family.
At the handover ceremony, Obra Show host Obaa Adwoa Nelson reaffirmed the programme’s mission: “We don’t just talk about issues—we take action to transform lives.”
Benjamin Ocran, Programs Director of Nhyira FM, said the provision shop is expected to support the girl’s education and help her avoid unhealthy relationships by improving her financial stability.
The family, led by Kofi Appiah, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture.
“You are number one. If you truly want your problem solved and to see real impact, Nhyira FM’s Obra Show is the place to go,” he said.
The family pledged to manage the shop responsibly to fulfill its intended purpose.
