National Security Takes Over Akom Load Station

National Security officials in the Ashanti Region have assumed control of the Akom Axel Load Station in the Afigya Kwabre North District following reports of financial mismanagement and alleged corruption.
Deputy Regional Security Coordinator, Alhaji Abubakar Nje, revealed that intelligence suggested certain individuals at the station were diverting government funds for personal gain. He cited irregularities such as bypassing the mandatory weighing of trucks, with some operatives allegedly pocketing the fees.
“We have taken over the Axel Load Station in Akom until further notice to restore order and safeguard state revenue,” Alhaji Nje told Adom News. He noted that nine vehicles were impounded on June 4, but by June 9, under his supervision, only one vehicle was processed, highlighting inconsistencies in operations.
Kwame Yallo, the NDC Constituency Organizer for Afigya Kwabre North, expressed frustration over internal corruption, stating that some party members were enriching themselves by manipulating station processes just months after taking office.
According to Yallo, when he raised concerns, he was offered a bribe of “one car per week” to remain silent. He urged the government and relevant highway authorities to take swift action to prevent further revenue loss and damage to public infrastructure.
He added that failure to weigh heavy trucks not only leads to financial loss but also contributes to the rapid deterioration of roads, while a few individuals benefit at the state’s expens
