MoMo vendor shot dead at Ngleshie Amanfro

Story Highlights
  • Eyewitness says Desmond had just closed his shop before the incident
  • Family believes he was followed and targeted by known individuals
  • Residents and relatives demand thorough investigation and improved security

A 21-year-old mobile money vendor, Desmond Adzah, was shot and killed by suspected armed robbers on the evening of Wednesday, July 9, at Quarters Junction in Ngleshie Amanfro, located in the Ga South Municipality.

The attack occurred around 7:00 p.m. as Desmond was heading home from work. According to a report by Adom News, unidentified assailants ambushed him and opened fire multiple times. He was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Eyewitness Ruben Kumor, who spoke to Desmond moments before the attack, recalled their last interaction. “I asked to withdraw GHC150, but he said he didn’t have enough cash. Just as I was heading back to my office, I heard gunshots. Later, someone told me Desmond had been shot.”

Kumor criticized the lack of police presence in the area despite a nearby station. “We barely see night patrols. Even assigning community officers would help. This shouldn’t have happened right after he closed shop.”

Desmond’s sister, Erica Adzah, believes the attack was not random. “He may have been followed by people he knew. Some even say the suspects were friends. After taking his bag, they shot him—likely because he recognized them.”

She added that Desmond attempted to seek refuge at their nearby family home, but gunshots forced relatives to stay indoors.

Erica urged authorities to treat the matter with urgency. “Motorbike crimes are rising. The government needs to act now to protect lives.”

The bereaved family and local residents are calling for an immediate and thorough police investigation, enhanced security measures, and more visible patrols to deter further attacks in the area.
