Former President John Mahama has appointed Mensah Thompson, Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), as the Acting Deputy Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The appointment is aimed at reinforcing the Commission’s leadership as Ghana’s capital markets undergo critical reforms to rebuild investor confidence and strengthen regulatory frameworks. Thompson holds an LLB from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, and brings a strong background in legal practice and civil society advocacy.
His expertise in public accountability is expected to enhance the SEC’s efforts to enforce compliance and improve governance within the securities market. Thompson will work alongside Acting Director-General James Klutse Avedzi, who succeeded Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh.
This leadership change comes at a pivotal moment for the SEC, as it seeks to restore public trust following recent market turbulence and the broader financial sector clean-up.
The SEC continues to serve as the primary regulatory body overseeing licensed market operators, fund managers, and collective investment schemes in Ghana’s capital market landscape.
