Haruna Iddrisu Challenges HR Professionals On Policy Engagement

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) to take a more active role in Ghana’s legislative process, stressing the importance of professional bodies in influencing sound public policy.

Speaking at the 2025 CIHRM Conference themed “Regulating HRM in Ghana: Standards, Ethics and Sustainability,” the minister urged the institute to critically evaluate proposed laws and contribute constructively to national conversations.

“Parliament is passing legislation—where is your input? Do you review these bills, provide feedback, or advocate for CIHRM representation on key policymaking boards?” he questioned.

Iddrisu reminded attendees that Article 106 of the Constitution mandates the gazetting of all bills to allow for public engagement—an opportunity he believes many professional bodies overlook.

“When you remain silent, you contribute to the passage of flawed legislation,” he cautioned, encouraging the HR community to use its expertise to shape laws and policies that impact both the workforce and Ghana’s broader development goals.
