Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a firm ultimatum to MultiChoice Ghana, the operators of DStv, demanding a reduction in subscription fees or risk punitive action.
In a statement issued under the government’s #AccountabilitySeries, the Minister warned that, starting August 7, 2025, DStv could have its broadcasting license suspended if it fails to adjust its pricing to reflect the recent strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi.
“This government will not stand by while Ghanaians are overcharged,” he stated. “The cedi has appreciated significantly, and we expect service providers to pass that benefit on to consumers. Non-compliance will not be tolerated.”
The directive is part of a broader government initiative aimed at promoting fair pricing and improved accountability across the digital and broadcasting sectors.
Although MultiChoice Ghana has yet to issue a public response, analysts suggest the warning could significantly impact satellite television access and pricing in the country.
The #AccountabilitySeries serves as a platform for cabinet ministers to report progress and policy updates in their respective sectors, with more developments expected in the coming days.
