Gov’t Evacuates Students from Bawku & Nalerigu

The Government of Ghana has announced the evacuation of students from Bawku, Nalerigu, and nearby areas due to the escalating violence in the region.

In a statement released on Sunday, July 27, 2025, the Presidency explained that the recently imposed curfew aims not only to curb the unrest but also to ensure a safe corridor for the evacuation of students from schools in the conflict-affected zones.

According to the statement, signed by Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye, intelligence reports indicate that some students have been specifically targeted during the recent disturbances—prompting immediate intervention to protect them.

The evacuation and curfew directives build upon earlier measures announced by the Ministry of the Interior, and are part of the government’s broader efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the area.

The government reaffirmed its strong commitment to the safety and well-being of students, as well as the restoration of calm across the affected communities.
