Ghana Temporarily Suspends Citizenship Applications for Diasporans

The Ministry of the Interior, working in collaboration with the President’s Diaspora Affairs Office, has announced a temporary halt to the processing of Ghanaian citizenship applications for historical diasporans.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, February 1, the suspension is aimed at enhancing the application system to make it more efficient, accessible, and user-friendly. The pause, the institutions noted, will allow time to review and refine existing procedures to ensure a smoother experience when applications resume.

Both the Ministry and the Diaspora Affairs Office reaffirmed their commitment to the global African community, stressing that Ghana remains ready and willing to welcome members of the diaspora back home.

They added that revised timelines and updated application guidelines will be shared through official channels in due course.
