FDA trains Ahafo herbal medicine producers

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has engaged herbal medicine producers in the Ahafo Region to educate them on the requirements needed to meet FDA standards.

During the sensitisation programme in Goaso, the FDA Regional Head for Ahafo, Bono, and Bono East, Akua Amponsah Owusu, noted that participants were guided through good manufacturing practices and the procedures for registering their products with the Authority.

She further explained that the FDA also briefed the manufacturers on the correct processes for advertising their products, emphasising the need for strict compliance to ensure consumer safety. The Authority warned that individuals or companies that disregard its directives will face legal sanctions.

The Ahafo Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Traditional Healers (GNATH), Yaw Biney Faustinus, admitted that although the region has numerous herbal producers, compliance with FDA regulations and product registration remains a challenge.

He praised the FDA for the initiative and pledged to work with members to ensure full adherence to the Authority’s guidelines to protect public health in the region.
