Efforts to Ensure Fair and Consistent Fuel Pricing – Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor

The National Chairman of the Premix Fuel Committee, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has outlined the committee’s main priorities, focusing on the implementation of automated stations and ensuring consistent pricing of premix fuel nationwide.

These initiatives are aimed at resolving issues faced by fisherfolk and boat owners who rely on the product.

Speaking on the committee’s plans during an interview on Channel One Newsroom on April 3, Dafeamekpor discussed the progress made with the automation of vending points, with 30 stations now operational and plans to launch 80 more.

“The automation of these stations helps reduce the involvement of middlemen, who often buy the fuel, hoard it, and increase the price before selling it to the end users—our fisherfolk and boat owners who transport people across the Volta Lake and in coastal areas,” he explained.

Dafeamekpor also emphasized the need for price consistency, noting that the committee has issued firm directives to enforce this.

“Another key priority for my committee is to ensure uniform pricing across the country. At our first-quarter meeting today, we issued strong directives and guidelines that any landing beach committee, whether inland or marine, selling fuel above the approved price will face sanctions,” he said.

He warned that non-compliance would result in serious penalties, including the removal of committee members involved in overpricing.

Additionally, Dafeamekpor announced plans to train landing beach committees to better educate fisherfolk and stakeholders. The committee’s efforts aim to improve efficiency, reduce exploitation by middlemen, and provide much-needed support to those dependent on premix fuel for their livelihoods.
