The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeayo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has raised alarm over the extensive destruction of the Asikasu No. 2 and Diabaa Forest Reserves in Dormaa Ahenkro caused by illegal logging.
Describing the environmental impact as “deeply troubling,” the Dormaahene called for immediate and firm action to stop the ongoing degradation.
To address the crisis, he announced the formation of a dedicated anti-illegal logging task force, supported by permanent security checkpoints at all entry points to the reserves. The task force will utilize advanced audio-visual surveillance technology to monitor and document illegal activities in real time.
Stressing the need for integrity, Osagyefo Dr. Badu II warned task force members against bribery, corruption, or any form of collusion, stating that the success of the initiative depends on transparency and public confidence.
He further urged security personnel to carry out their duties with professionalism, fairness, and resilience, even when faced with threats or political interference.
This initiative signals a proactive, community-led approach to environmental conservation in the Bono Region — combining traditional authority with modern enforcement methods to protect vital forest resources from irreversible damage.
