  • 42-year-old Mallam Daouda abducted by four gunmen on two motorbikes in Tindugu
  • Attack occurred around 11:40 p.m.; assailants fired about 15 rounds
  • This is the second such incident in three months in the area

A 42-year-old man was kidnapped on Tuesday night by armed assailants in Tindugu, near Wapuli, in the Saboba District of Ghana’s Northern Region.

Eyewitnesses reported that four gunmen on two motorbikes opened fire, discharging around 15 rounds of ammunition before abducting the victim, who had been sleeping under a shed at his home.

The victim has been identified as Mallam Daouda, a moderately wealthy cattle owner and respected community member.

“It was around 11:40 p.m. when four armed men attacked a cow herdsman and kidnapped him,” said Andrews Mawie Kusan, the Assembly Member for the area. “The man is kindhearted, so everyone is crying and worried.”

Mr. Kusan added that this marks the second such incident in the area within three months. A similar attack in September saw the victim escape from captivity.

He emphasized that these repeated incidents have caused widespread fear among residents and urged authorities to intensify efforts to combat the menace.

Police in Wapuli have confirmed the abduction and reported the case to the Saboba District Command.

JoyNews monitoring indicates that this is the fourth kidnapping in the Yendi–Wapuli–Gushegu enclave this year. In September, a 50-year-old cattle owner was abducted in Ikpeani, with kidnappers demanding GH¢30,000; the victim later escaped. In October, another wealthy cattle owner near Wapuli was targeted, with a GH¢300,000 ransom demanded. In November, a middle-aged man named Umar was killed after resisting an attempted kidnapping at his home in Jagbel, near Ugando in the Chereponi District.
