Asanko Gold Launches 5-Year Development Plan For Ashanti Region

Asanko Gold Mine has unveiled a comprehensive five-year socio-economic development plan aimed at boosting infrastructure and improving community welfare in the Amansie West and South districts of the Ashanti Region.

The initiative is designed to foster a self-reliant socio-economic environment by promoting alternative livelihoods, enhancing infrastructure, building local capacity, and forming strong community partnerships.

The plan focuses on key areas such as agriculture and livelihoods, education, healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and economic empowerment.

Speaking at the launch event in Manso Nkwanta, Ahmed Mohadini-Yahaya, General Manager of Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd., described the plan as a “social contract” between the mine and the communities it operates in.

He outlined several impactful initiatives already in place, including the Asanko Youth Apprenticeship Program, Asanko Scholarship Program, the Women in Soap-Making Initiative, and targeted projects in education and agriculture.

“The apprenticeship program will equip young people with hands-on skills to combat unemployment, while the scholarship scheme will support academically gifted but financially challenged students,” Mr. Mohadini-Yahaya explained.

He also noted the mine’s contributions since 2016, including the construction of classroom blocks, teachers’ quarters, and the installation of mechanized boreholes for clean water access.

District Chief Executives Prince Morrison Manu (Amansie West) and Benjamin Marfo (Amansie South) commended the plan, saying it complements government efforts to reduce unemployment and promote local development.

A representative of the Manso Nkwantahene encouraged Asanko Gold Mine to ensure full and effective implementation of the plan.
