Alhaji Masawudu Attacked During Akwatia By-Election

The Akwatia District Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Akwatia, Eastern Region.
According to a statement issued by the Eastern South Regional Police Command, the complainant has been issued a medical form to seek treatment and return the completed report to aid the ongoing investigation. The case has since been escalated to the regional command for further action.
DSP David Fianko Okyere, Public Affairs Officer for the Eastern South Region, assured the public that the police are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation, following due legal process.
The incident is said to have occurred at the Akwatia Lorry Station in the Vawaso Electoral Area during a by-election, when tensions rose between members of the NPP and the escort of the NDC Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.
Alhaji Masawudu reported that the altercation took place while he was engaging with the media near the Akwatia Zongo area, where he had been deployed to monitor the electoral process.
